How we research, write, and review

Last updated June 2026

The Wellness Voyage is an independent, educational wellness publication, grounded in evidence rather than hype. Here is how our content is produced.

Who we are

We are an editorial team of writers who specialise in specific wellness topics. We are not doctors, and The Wellness Voyage does not provide medical services. We publish educational guides to help readers understand the evidence and ask better questions of qualified professionals.

Evidence and sourcing

Every health claim we make is traced to a credible source — preferring systematic reviews, randomised controlled trials, and guidance from recognised health authorities over single studies or anecdote.

We clearly distinguish what traditional use suggests from what controlled research actually demonstrates, and we say so plainly when the two diverge.

How we grade evidence

We describe how settled the science is rather than overstating it. When the evidence is strong, we say so; when it is limited, emerging, or mixed, we say that too. We would rather tell you "we cannot confirm this" than imply more certainty than the research supports.

How we evaluate products

We do not operate a testing laboratory, and we do not test products first-hand. We have not run these devices in a controlled room, worn the masks, or measured anything ourselves. Nothing on this site is a hands-on test result, and we do not describe it as one.

What we publish instead is a check of what can actually be checked, with the working shown. For a product guide that means:

  • Published specifications, read from the manufacturer’s own listing and reported as the manufacturer’s claim rather than as a measurement.
  • Independent certifications, confirmed in the certifying body’s own directory rather than taken from a box label — the AAFA asthma & allergy friendly® programme, for example.
  • Regulatory records, such as the FDA’s public 510(k) clearance database, checked for the specific device or its manufacturer.
  • Peer-reviewed research, cited so you can open the study rather than take our summary on trust.
  • Findings published by named third-party testing organisations, credited by name so you can read the original and judge it yourself.

Every number carries its source. A figure from the manufacturer is labelled a manufacturer claim. A figure from a certifier or an independent tester is attributed to them by name. A figure we worked out ourselves — clean air delivery rate against room volume, or what replacement filters cost to keep a unit running — is shown as arithmetic you can repeat with your own room and your own prices.

Where we could not confirm a figure, the page says so and leaves it unconfirmed. We would rather publish a gap than an invented number.

We earn affiliate commission on some product links. It does not decide which products we recommend, the order we recommend them in, or what we say about them.

What we cannot tell you: how loud a unit is in your room, how it holds up after two years, how a mask fits your face, and anything else that needs the product in hand. Where that matters to the decision, the guide says plainly that it is the part we could not check.

Medical disclaimer

Our content is for general educational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before changing your diet, supplements, or routine, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or managing a health condition.

Accuracy, updates, and corrections

Wellness research evolves, so our guides are reviewed and updated as the science changes. If you spot something that looks inaccurate or out of date, we want to know — contact us and we will review and correct it promptly.

Authorship and review

Each guide is written by a topic specialist and checked against the standards on this page by our editorial team before publishing. Author profiles list each writer’s focus areas and published guides so you can see who stands behind the content.

Editorial independence and advertising

Our editorial content is independent of our funding. Advertising and affiliate partnerships never determine our conclusions or which products we cover, and they do not buy favourable coverage.

Where a page contains affiliate links or sponsored content, it is clearly disclosed.

Tools and human review

We may use research and drafting tools to help prepare a guide, but every article is reviewed by a human editor for accuracy, balance, and sourcing before it is published. A tool never has the final say — our editorial team does.
